Report hints Jose Mourinho may target Spurs loanee at Roma
Jose Mourinho could be interested in taking Tottenham Hotspur loanee Carlos Vinicius to Roma, according to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato.
The announcement that Mourinho would lead the Giallorossi next year is little more than 24 hours old. Nevertheless, speculation is already rife concerning who he could try to sign.
And it appears that one of the names on his radar is a player he brought to Tottenham during his tenure in North London.
According to Calciomercato, Mourinho is interested in Vinicius as he looks to add competition for the likes of Edin Dzeko and Borja Mayoral.
Despite Mourinho signing him, Vinicius has not had the best time with Spurs. The 26-year-old has only made three starts in the Premier League.
Of course, he would have surely been aware that he was always likely to be a backup for Harry Kane. But it would be little surprise if he was disappointed with how little he has played.
Sky Sports reported this week that Tottenham are not planning to take up the £36 million option to keep Vinicius. So that may perhaps open the door for Mourinho to sign him again.
TBR View: Spurs may want to rival Mourinho at lower price
You can understand why Tottenham are reluctant to pay £36 million for Vinicius. However, based on previous reports, perhaps there is a chance that they could yet rival Mourinho for the Brazilian.
And given the problems that they have had finding a backup for Kane down the years, it would make sense for Tottenham to at least ask about keeping him.
But if they want to sign him, they may have to see off competition from their old boss, it seems.
