Celtic could decide to sell Odsonne Edouard this summer should he not commit his future to the Hoops, with The Sun on Sunday (27/9; page 61) reporting that Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Brighton and Hove Albion are all monitoring the situation.
Edouard has scored five goals in seven appearances in all competitions this term. However, his current form is a cause for concern. It should be noted that three of his five goals came on the opening day of the campaign.
The Scottish Sun reported back in June that talks were underway over a new deal for Edouard. It was suggested that the Frenchman’s current terms expire in 2022.
But it would appear that Celtic may not have made as much progress as they would have liked.
The Sun on Sunday (27/9; page 61) reports that the Bhoys could decide to let Edouard leave before the deadline if his future remains uncertain.
The report claims that Villa, Brighton and Palace all want Edouard. However, he will still not come cheap, with the report suggesting that Celtic will demand £30 million for the striker.
TBR View: Celtic taking big gamble if they sell Edouard
Plenty of Celtic fans will surely have few concerns about Edouard’s future. And that may partly be down to the fact that the Bhoys will have to replace the 22-year-old should he leave.
When Celtic do decide to sell Edouard, you would imagine that it would happen right at the start of a window when the Hoops have the most time to find a replacement.
With the season underway, it is going to be incredibly difficult to replace Edouard in the remaining days of this summer.
So while Celtic would understandably prefer to have Edouard’s future resolved as soon as possible, it would still be a huge surprise if they sanctioned his departure this summer – even if he has not signed a new contract.
