Report highlights the bargain price Isaac Lihadji has moved for after Arsenal and Tottenham links

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur were both being linked with a move for Marseille talent Isaac Lihadji this summer, and it has now emerged that they have missed out on a complete bargain.

According to a report from Foot Mercato in December, both Arsenal and Spurs had contacted the player’s representatives regarding a potential transfer to England when his contract expired.

It would have been an exciting move for a player who has impressed for the French under-18s side and the 18-year-old made his first-team debut for Andre Villas-Boas’ men.

That contract expired this summer but it emerged that Lille were the frontrunners for his services some time ago.

Now the fee that Lille paid for the player has been revealed, according to La Provence, and it would appear that Arsenal and Spurs have missed out on a potential bargain.

The report claims he cost around €300,000 (£270k) in compensation, which is a bargain for a French youth international who has caught the eye.

Lihadji is now at Lille, where they have a fairly decent record of turning young forwards into elite performers. Arsenal know that all too well with Nicolas Pepe at the club whilst Tottenham will also be aware, considering they have two former Lille coaches on their coaching staff and are said to be keen on Jonathan Ikone.

But Lihadji will likely feel he is at the right club to develop his career. Arsenal and Tottenham will just be disappointed they did not manage to secure this bargain.
