Report highlights Antonio Rudiger’s transfer situation and Tottenham must swoop after reported ‘positive talks’

Reports are suggesting that Chelsea are expecting to field offers for centre-back Antonio Rudiger in January.

Eurosport are reporting in their Inside Football feature that the German wants to leave Stamford Bridge having been dropped from the Chelsea first-team. The report claims that Rudiger feels ‘he is being treated unfairly’ and that Roma might be keen.

Of course, this should also catch the attention of Tottenham Hotspur, given their previous interest in the player.

As reported by Sky Sports in September, Tottenham began looking toward a move for Rudiger after a move for Milan Skriniar rocketed out of their price range.

Of course, the report also claimed that Chelsea would be unlikely to allow a loan switch to a league rival and would be unwilling to do business with Spurs.

Rudiger was also expensive. As reported by The Athletic (relayed by The Sun), Chelsea wanted a £5 million loan fee and his £150,000-a-week wages covered for the season. All in all, the report claimed a deal for Rudiger would set an interested party back around £12.5 million.

But that aside, Spurs will undoubtedly want to get a deal done.

Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies have struggled at centre-back for Tottenham this season whilst Joe Rodon is still considered one for the future.

Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld have proved a good pairing. However, their lack of pace does concern Spurs and Rudiger would certainly solve that issue.

As reported by The Athletic, the previous attempt from Tottenham to bring Rudiger in got quite far. They report that the German had ‘positive talks’ with Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho before backing out of a deal with a fear of a fallout from Chelsea fans over joining a rival. The same publication also stated that Tottenham were also Rudiger’s preferred destination before he decided to stick around.

Considering the fact that Rudiger is now reportedly feeling underappreciated at Stamford Bridge he might now decide the time is right to push for an exit and head to a city rival.
