Newcastle United may have a battle on their hands keeping hold of their club record signing this summer. As reported by TyC Sports, Real Madrid have been impressed by Almiron’s performances at the Copa America with Paraguay this summer.

Now, The Mirror have reported on a fee that Newcastle United would likely accept for their January recruit.

They suggest that a fee of £35 million could be enough for Real Madrid to secure the talented 25-year-old.

The same report comments on how Almiron finally broke the transfer record Newcastle United set with their purchase of Michael Owen, setting Newcastle back £21 million. Selling Almiron just six months later would certainly not help appease any disgruntled Newcastle fans.

Newcastle United worked hard to secure Almiron’s arrival from Atlanta United in the winter and will surely not want to sell him this summer.

But there is currently confusion at Newcastle. Manager Rafa Benitez appears to be on his way, with The Sun suggesting the Spaniard has failed to agree a new deal at St James’ Park.

Benitez would have played a key role in convincing Almiron into a move to Newcastle. His apparent departure would certainly not help Newcastle if Real Madrid come knocking.

Whilst on the face of it, losing Almiron seems unlikely, Benitez’s departure could certainly have several Newcastle players left disappointed.
