Report: Harry Kane could force Spurs move by avoiding return to training
The Telegraph has claimed that Harry Kane could refuse to return to Spurs and their pre-season training camp, if Daniel Levy refuses to sell him.
Kane is currently away and recovering from his exploits during Euro 2020 with England. After losing to Italy in the final, the Spurs skipper is spending some time to relax and think over his future.
Reports in recent months have suggested that Kane is a target for Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is said to see Kane as his ideal new number nine, after losing Sergio Aguero this summer.
Spurs boss Nuno Santo spoke yesterday of his plans for Kane. The new man in charge was clear in his opinion that Kane is, and will remain, a Tottenham player.
However, the Telegraph’s report will be of concern. It suggests that senior England players believe Kane could dig his own heels. It would, as the report states, be akin to the situation with Gareth Bale in 2013.
The next few weeks will be vital in how Spurs’ future goes. Fabio Paratici will need to work hard to bring in the players that can help convince Kane his future lies in North London.
Out of character
This would be an extreme measure for Kane to take and one which you have to say would be out of character. He just doesn’t come across that way, so it’s hard to see him refusing to train.
However, you just never know in football either. If Kane has had enough, and he feels this is the way to force a move, then anything can happen.
It would, though, be disappointing to see. Spurs and Kane have given each other so much. Surely, then, there’s a more amicable solution here.
