Hibernian-linked midfielder Greg Docherty wants to return to Rangers this summer, The Daily Record reports.

Rangers midfielder Docherty is on a season-long loan at Shrewsbury Town. His future is up in the air after an impressive season in England’s third tier.

But despite being linked with Hibs (The Scottish Sun), Docherty is eager to break into Steven Gerrard’s team.

Docherty told The Daily Record: “I know I’m not going back to Ibrox to walk straight into the team. I’ll have to fight for my place. But having so many games behind me shows I can withstand the rigours of a hard season.

“If I have to wait and bide my time, I will.  My No.1 aim is still to go back to Rangers and be a success. I signed for them for a reason – because I want to play for Rangers.

“This summer I’ll try to control all I can, give my all and show I want to be there for a long time. I’m going back to give it a right go.”

The Scotland under-21 man has enjoyed a productive season at Shrewsbury, racking up 10 goals and 11 assists in 49 games.

Docherty has one game remaining with Salop, which will take his season tally to 50, and he has become a fan favourite at New Meadow thanks to his dominant midfield displays.

The 22-year-old has the potential to break into the Rangers team but he needs a positive pre-season to convince Gerrard he is good enough.
