Reported Arsenal (Mirror) and Tottenham Hotspur transfer target (Bild) Denis Zakaria has reportedly opened contract talks with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Fussball Transfers claim the Bundesliga outfit are attempting to tie the midfielder down to a new deal in a bid to fend off the interest from other clubs.

Zakaria – currently under contract until the summer of 2022 – is hot property at the moment having enjoyed a really solid start with Gladbach, who surprisingly sit top of the league after 12 games.

Zakaria, a defensive-minded midfielder, has played in every single game so far this season, and his stock has been rising ever since his arrival at the club from Young Boys in 2017.

The club are determined to protect their asset by handing him a longer contract, but could the news force Arsenal and Spurs to step up their interest ahead of the January transfer window?

Physical presence Zakaria would be a wonderful signing for either side, but arguably it’s Arsenal who need him more at the moment.

With Granit Xhaka’s long-term future uncertain, he would be a fine replacement for his fellow countryman at the Emirates.

Lucas Torreira has also been linked with a January exit, suggesting there could be even more reason to pursue a swoop before Gladbach tie him down.
