Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has provided an update on Barcelona and Inter Milan’s stance in their pursuit of Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – and all signs point to the striker’s exit.

Aubameyang, who turned 31 last week, is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates. He himself has spoken about whether he will sign a new contract or not, making it clear Arsenal must meet his terms.

But no agreement has been made and given that this summer is the best chance to get rid of the attacker for a fee. Arsenal may have to sell. Di Marzio states that if Inter Milan do not sign Aubameyang, then Barcelona will.

That is because Aubameyang’s future directly hinges on the future of Lautaro Martinez. Inter Milan want to sign Aubameyang as Martinez’s replacement, if the Argentine moves to the Nou Camp for his £100million exit clause.

However, if Barcelona fail to strike a deal with Inter and sign Martinez, then the Spanish champions will instead go after Aubameyang themselves. Either way, if Martinez goes or stays, Aubameyang will be targeted by Inter or Barca.

TBR’s view – Should Arsenal cash in, or get rid?

Under Mikel Arteta, Arsenal need to go through a transformation period – similar to the one Manchester United have been through of late. Younger players need to be brought through, and a blueprint set for years to come.

Eddie Nketiah should be a part of that, as should Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Reiss Nelson, Nicolas Pepe and even Matteo Guendouzi despite his antics against Brighton. The younger players can drive Arsenal to success.

But Aubameyang probably has two seasons left at the type of quality he produces. Indeed, he was somewhat lacklustre against Brighton and Manchester City and bringing in some cash this summer is important.
