Report: Giovani Lo Celso helped convince Cristian Romero over Spurs move

Spurs completed the signing of Cristian Romero yesterday but can thank a number of other parties within the club for getting the deal over the line.

Romero completed his move to Tottenham last night, signing a long-term contract and becoming the biggest buy of the summer so far for Fabio Paratici and Nuno Santo.

Paratici’s involvement with the deal is well known. He signed Romero at Juventus, and was determined to land the Argentinian this summer for his new club.

But it wasn’t just Paratici influencing the deal. The Athletic have claimed that Romero’s international teammate, Giovani Lo Celso, also played a big part.

They claim that Lo Celso ‘spoke highly’ of the club and actively discussed the move with Romero, once Spurs’ interest came to light.

Romero can apparently get straight involved with Spurs training in preparation for next week. Due to his Covid status, and the country he arrived from, he is free to get ready to face Manchester City next weekend.

Good signs from Lo Celso

It bodes well for the club that someone like Lo Celso has gone out of his way to sell Spurs to someone else.

While there’s a lot of mess happening regarding Harry Kane, it’s good to see a player pushing the club. Lo Celso clearly knows Romero’s qualities. And with other teams no doubt interested, he’s stepped up to help the deal.

Lo Celso will also be crucial for Romero you’d think. The defender needs to settle in. But Spurs need him bedded in quickly. They haven’t after all, spent £47m for someone to sit on the bench and ease their way in.
