German website KSTA have claimed that midfielder Salih Ozcan has opted to remain at Bundesliga side Koln and fight for his place – despite reported interest from Rangers and newly-promoted Premier League side West Brom.
Ozcan, 22, has clocked up 62 senior appearances for Koln but was only a bit-part player in their promotion back to the Bundesliga during 2018-19. That saw him go on loan to Holstein Kiel last season, where he sparkled.
Playing 29 times, Germany Under-21 international Ozcan had a hand in 12 goals from central midfield – scoring five goals and creating seven more. However, he had a decision to make on his future this summer.
That is because after returning to Koln, Rangers, Huddersfield and West Brom made it clear they were interested. Ozcan, though, has chosen to fight for his place at Koln – despite entering the final 12 months of his contract.

TBR’s view – Ozcan potential could have made him a gem
Certainly, Koln have that gem on their hands and need to tie him down to a new contract before Rangers and West Brom come calling again. A goalscoring midfielder, Ozcan has more than 90 club appearances to his name.
At such a young age, that is already priceless experience and proof that he has the quality to make it at the top level. A move to Rangers or West Brom may have stifled his progress, and Koln is the best place for him right now.
But if he struggles to start, then Rangers and West Brom must consider a move in January or next summer – when he will be available for nothing.
