Report: German club will make move for Arsenal striker this week

Bayer Leverkusen want to take Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal on a free transfer and are preparing to move for the striker, although Crystal Palace still harbour hopes of landing him themselves.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Leverkusen want to take Nketiah off Arsenal’s hands for nothing at the end of the current season. It’s claimed the German side want Nketiah to sign a pre-contract. In fact, they could even push to make the deal happen by this week.

However, The Sun also claim that Crystal Palace have not quite given up on Nketiah just yet. Patrick Vieira is an admirer of the young forward and is hoping Premier League football could tempt him to stay in London. It’s also claimed a new deal isn’t completely out of the question. Nketiah was starting to feature more until Covid ruled him out of the game with Man City yesterday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s antics have opened the door for strikers at Arsenal. Nketiah, then, could well end up playing more between now and the end of the season.

Nketiah has five goals to his name in the EFL Cup this term. He is also prolific for the England under-21s, having scored 16 in just 17 games for the Young Lions.

At one point it looked nailed on that Eddie Nketiah needed to get out of Arsenal. However, with Aubameyang out of the picture, he might just get things going now.

Mikel Arteta brought him on a few weeks back and praised his man. And while Premier League goals haven’t flowed yet, he has done well in patches. Certainly, he’s done enough to warrant a move somewhere else.

Of course, Germany is enticing. Leverkusen have nurtured talent for years in a good way. But Palace are also doing well under Vieira, and have an exciting young team themselves.
