Belgian newspaper HLN have claimed that Aston Villa are set to become embroiled in a race to sign Club Brugge midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, with German club Koln also in talks.
According to Zimbabwean publication The Chronicle, the 25-year-old was a £20million target for Aston Villa, as well as Newcastle United after breaking into Brugge’s side.
A tough-tackling holding midfielder, Villa are likely to be keen on the Zimbabwe international given that they released both Glenn Whelan and Mile Jedinak earlier this summer.
However, Voetbal Nieuws have claimed that Brugge value Nakamba at just £6.3million, but that the Midlands side face big competition from German side Koln – who have been in talks over a move for weeks.
It remains to be seen if Villa are as interested in Koln, but it does seem as though Newcastle are no longer interested – with the latest reports only mentioning Villa and the German club.
TBR’s view – Villa have got to rival Koln for Nakamba signature
At just £6.3million, Nakamba would be an excellent signing. Lung-busting stamina, speed and power in the middle of the park and the ability to read the game, Nakamba has what it takes to thrive in the Premier League.
But Dean Smith’s side have to move quickly. Koln have been in talks for weeks and although those talks are struggling to progress, they are certainly further down the line than the newly-promoted Premier League team.
