Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny is a loan target for Galatasaray. According to Turkish media outlet Ajansspor, Galatasaray are hopeful of signing Elneny on a temporary basis before the European window slams shut.
Elneny is out of favour at Arsenal and likely to be moved on. The Egypt international was limited to just eight Premier League outings last season. And he was not in the matchday squad as Arsenal beat Newcastle United on the opening day of this campaign.
This summer, Unai Emery moved to strengthen his midfield options. Dani Ceballos has been brought in to play in central midfield at the same time that Joe Willock has accelerated up the pecking order.
Elneny now finds himself below both Ceballos and Willock, as well as Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka. Calum Chambers and David Luiz can also play in midfield. The most sensible choice for him is to leave Arsenal before the European window closes.
Galatasaray are ready to offer the 27-year-old an escape route. The Turkish champions can offer Elneny Premier League football and a title defence. He will now weigh up his options before making a move.
It makes sense for Elneny to move away from Arsenal this summer and he has lost the chance to sign for another English club. A move abroad is the only route he can take, otherwise he will spend the season rotting in the Gunners’ reserves.
Arsenal do not need him and getting him off their books would free up some wages for future transfers. This deal is likely to be a loan, though, but Elneny needs to be thinking about his long-term future too.
