Report: Galatasaray interested in signing Crystal Palace's Cheikhou Kouyate
Galatasaray hold an interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate.
According to Fanatik, the feeling is mutual with Kouyate seeking an exit from Selhurst Park. However, the Turkish giants’ manager Fatih Terim is keen on the Senegal international due to his versatility.
More claims have emerged saying the Cimbom fans are attempting to urge the ace to join through messages on social media.
Kouyate has enjoyed a fairly decent season with the Eagles this year and has featured across both defence and midfield.
All in all, the 31-year-old made 37 appearances across all competitions with the vast majority coming in the backline due to masses amount of injuries for Palace.
Kouyate unsellable: Lack of options means Palace must reject Galatasaray interest
Palace have got themselves into quite a unique, yet sensational, situation this summer.
As many as 14 different first-team players‘ contracts are due to expire in weeks to come. It would leave the squad looking paper-thin and with the recent pandemic causing a financial crisis in the Premier League, replacements won’t be easy to come by.
To continue, Kouyate proves far too consistent and reliable of a player to be sold in the summer. His impact for Roy Hodgson’s backline was incredibly noticeable as he led the team in clearances and was second in aerial battles won.
Add on top, his ability to play in midfield and defence, and you have a versatile figure who is priceless.
However, more importantly, Kouyate’s experience is crucial to bring out the best of the youngsters in the squad. The likes of Nathan Ferguson, Tyrick Mitchell and Eberechi Eze could all do with an older, more experience head in the team.
It would be similar to how David Luiz performed at Arsenal, where most of his best work came off the field.
Selling the African would be a horrible transfer decision. His abiltiy, versatility and consistency makes him an invaluable member of this Palace side.
