Arsenal are reportedly in talks with their teenage sensation Gabriel Martinelli about a new contract.
According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have started discussions with the attacker about a pay rise from £10,000-a-week to £30,000-a-week following his impressive debut season at the Emirates Stadium.
It is understood that Mikel Arteta’s team want to secure the 18-year-old’s long-term future despite the fact his current deal lasts until 2024.
The report details that Spanish giants Real Madrid are interested in the Brazil Under-23 international and value him at around £50million.
Martinelli was not expected to make an instant breakthrough in the Arsenal first-team following his summer arrival, but is quickly developing into one of the best young stars in the Premier League.
The forward has scored 10 goals in 21 games across all competitions this season, including a stunning breakaway goal in the draw with Chelsea in midweek in the league.
Arsenal are going to have a huge battle on to keep Martinelli if he keeps developing at the same rate and the teenager already looks a key player in the team.
His long-term future is surely at centre-forward given his composure and movement, but he’s doing a job as a left-winger right now and making quite the impact.
It’s a no-brainer for Arsenal to ensure Martinelli sticks around with Madrid waiting in the wings and they need to show the kind of ambition that they can move forward under Arteta.
