Report: Fulham set to win race for Robinson, beating West Brom and Newcastle
The Daily Mail have claimed that Wigan Athletic defender Antonee Robinson is set to join Fulham with the London-based side confident of winning the race for the left-back – ahead of Newcastle and West Brom.
Robinson, 23, almost joined AC Milan in January after two excellent seasons with Wigan in January. Clocking up 65 appearances with the Latics, he made the left-back slot his own.
But with Wigan entering administration, a number of players are expected to leave to raise funds. Joe Gelhardt moved to Leeds, Kieffer Moore to Cardiff City and Jenson Weir to Brighton. Robinson is set to join that list.
Plenty of Premier League clubs have been linked – even Everton with a potential return. But the latest report claims Fulham are confident of winning the race to sign Robinson for £1.9million, ahead of Newcastle and West Brom.
TBR’s view – Robinson an absolute bargain at just £1.9m
So much so, that Newcastle and West Brom will be frustrated they did not complete a move for the USA international. The Toon certainly, who have waved goodbye to both Danny Rose and Jetro Willems after loans.
Newcastle are now left with just Paul Dummett, who has struggled with injury and consistency since Newcastle returned to the Premier League in 2017. Matt Ritchie is naturally a winger. Robinson would have been ideal.
