Turkish outlet Skor have claimed that Fulham could re-sign Ryan Babel on a free transfer this summer despite the Dutch ace having two years left on his Galatasaray contract – in a slightly unorthodox swap deal.
Babel, 33, joined Fulham in January 2019 on a six-month contract – a deal which would have been extended had Fulham survived the drop. He played 16 times, and starred for the Cottagers – scoring five and creating four.
He joined Galatasaray last summer but after five goals in his first 20 games, he went on loan to Ajax. Now back at Gala, the Turkish side are happy to let rejoin Fulham for nothing – if they get Jean-Michael Seri back on loan.
Seri joined Gala on loan last summer and played 37 times last season. Gala want him back, but cannot afford the £16million permanent clause in his loan deal. So, Gala are willing to offer Fulham a strange-looking swap.
Indeed, the report claims that Fulham will be offered the chance to re-sign ex-Liverpool ace Babel on a free – if they can re-sign Seri on loan for the 2020-21 campaign. A deal is expected to formulate by the end of the week.
TBR’s view – Babel’s Fulham 18-19 form makes deal worthwhile
Having a hand in nine goals during his previous 16 Fulham appearances makes a deal to re-sign Babel a no-brainer for the Cottagers. Premier League experience, goals, assists, and a bit of flair is just what Scott Parker needs.
The chances of Fulham getting a permanent deal for Seri remains unlikely. The Cottagers signed him for around £25million and they will want a decent portion of that back – another loan at Gala could help raise his value.
It is a deal that works for Fulham, and suits both Babel and Seri.
