French outlet Le Telegramme have claimed, as per GFFN, that Ligue 1 side Brest have pulled out of a deal to sign Clermont Foot striker Adrian Grbic due to his £9million price tag – amid reports Celtic and Rangers are interested.

Grbic, 23, is expected to leave Clermont this summer after the French government ruled an end to professional football until September – meaning Clermont have failed to secure promotion and succumbing the likes of Grbic to another season in Ligue 2.

But after the Austrian star netted an impressive 17 goals in 26 league games, top-tier sides are interested. Brest enquired about the striker but have pulled out of a move as he would cost a whopping £9million.

Sky Sports claimed last week that Premier League side Brighton had joined Celtic and Rangers in pursuit of the former Stuttgart striker. He has a contract at Clermont until the summer of 2022.

TBR’s view – Is Grbic worth mammoth transfer fee?

Celtic paid a similar figure for Odsonne Edouard and the Frenchman has since netted 27 goals in 46 outings this season – and is being linked with an eight-figure move down south. Whether Grbic can turn out like Edouard is another question.

However, Celtic and Rangers would be well-advised to sit tight and wait for Clermont to reduce his asking price. The second-tier side may be forced to sell Grbic this summer as the global health crisis affects many sides’ finances.

It may see them reduce Grbic’s asking price in order to bring in some cash for his signature.
