Three unnamed clubs are trying to sign Lovre Kalinic from Aston Villa before today’s deadline. European clubs can sign players before today’s deadline and Kalinic is attracting attention from France and Germany, according to Sky Sports News.
These three sides are trying to sign Kalinic on loan today. The Croatia international has dropped down the pecking order at Aston Villa since his £7m (Sky Sports) move from Gent in January.
Kalinic was brought in after Orjan Nyland made a string of high-profile errors. But Kalinic was no better between the sticks. After just eight appearances, Kalinic was dropped and replaced by Jed Steer.

The 29-year-old sat on the bench for Aston Villa’s play-off final win against Derby County. But since their return to the Premier League, he has fallen further down the pecking order. Steer is now second-choice and summer signing Tom Heaton is the first-choice stopper.
With first-team opportunities looking bleak in the West Midlands, Kalinic might be tempted to move. He has to find a new club today but he has attracted interest from France and Germany.
TBR’s view
Kalinic needs to get out before today’s deadline. Even if it is just a loan deal, he needs to sort his career out and he is unlikely to get chances to do that at Aston Villa. With a club in France or Germany, Kalinic can reignite his stalling career.
Aston Villa should sanction his exit. The Villans do not need Kalinic even if Heaton or Steer suffers an injury. With Nyland still on their books and Matija Sarkic out on loan, Aston Villa are well-stocked in this department.
