Celtic are reportedly closing in on a deal for Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

According to the Sun, the 31-year-old is set to secure a return to Parkhead after previously spending four years with the Scottish giants.

It is understood that the Englishman will have his medical today (Thursday) ahead of a move

The report explains that Celtic have agreed a deal with Southampton for the shot-stopper and he will now compete for a spot in Neil Lennon’s team.

TBR’s View:

With Scott Bain currently sidelined through injury, it makes sense for Celtic to strengthen in goal and that’s exactly what they have done.

Forster may be short on minutes with Southampton, but he’s someone that should settle extremely quickly back at his former club and make them stronger on the pitch.

He previously kept 101 cleans sheets in just 197 games for the Bhoys and his return should give fans plenty to celebrate.

The goalkeeper has a real command of his penalty box with his physical presence and has shown his qualities in the Premier League, but has fallen out of favour at St Mary’s and a move away from Southampton makes sense now when he should be in the peak of his career.
