Report: Four European teams want Tottenham man

The Daily Mail claim that four European sides are interested in landing Tottenham Hotspur striker Fernando Llorente on a free transfer this summer, with his chances of a new contract seemingly over.

Tottenham have missed the deadline to hand the 34-year-old a new deal and that means the 2010 World Cup winner is to leave the north London club after a difficult two years under Mauricio Pochettino.

Llorente, who joined Spurs in the summer of 2017 from Swansea City for just £12million (ESPN), has managed just 13 goals in 65 league and cup outings for Tottenham in two seasons.

He has scored some crucial goals, though, including the winner in the Champions League tie against Manchester City. Despite that, Spurs have opted against extending his £75,000-a-week deal (Spotrac).

Now, AC Milan, Valencia and AS Roma are all interested in Llorente, while a move to France with Marseille is also on the cards as the Ligue 1 side look to replace Mario Balotelli.

TBR’s view

Have Tottenham made the right decision in getting rid of Llorente? This season, he has proved so effective in the Champions League and been as important as anybody in their run to the final.

Even his display in the semi-final, coming off the bench against Ajax in the second leg, was crucial. Even though Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick, it was Llorente that changed the game.

Spurs should have kept the former Athletic Bilbao striker for another 12 months. Indeed, landing Llorente for any team is an absolute bargain.
