Report: Forest frontrunners to sign £15m-rated intl midfielder who's got 'everything in his locker'

Nottingham Forest have reportedly got their first two signings of the summer over the line.

Fabrizio Romano claimed on Friday that the Reds had sealed deals for Taiwo Awoniyi and Dean Henderson.

Now, Forest have apparently set their sights on one of the best midfielders in the Scottish Premiership.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Reds are leading the way for Glasgow Rangers star Joe Aribo.

Evangelos Marinakis has reportedly given Steve Cooper the green light to pursue the Nigeria international.

The Sun also claims Forest ‘will spend big’ to make sure they sign Aribo.

As well as the Reds, the likes of Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Fulham are apparently eyeing the 25-year-old too.

Aribo has been nothing short of sensational for Rangers since signing from Charlton in 2019.

He has made 148 appearances for the Light Blues, helping them win the Premiership and Scottish Cup.

Aribo also helped Rangers reach the Europa League final last year.

His contract expires next summer, so Forest might have a decent chance of landing him.

If Aribo doesn’t pen fresh terms, Rangers will have to sell him this summer to avoid losing him for little to nothing next year.

“The most important player in Van Bronckhorst’s dressing room”

In December last year, Ibrox icon Barry Ferguson speculated that Aribo is worth at least £15million.

“I’ve rated Aribo highly ever since he first arrived in Glasgow from Charlton,” he wrote in the Daily Record.

“You could see straight away he was a talented young man.

“But, even so, I’ve been amazed at the progress he has made and particularly over the past six months or so.

“Aribo has taken his game to a whole new level and become an even better player than most of us ever thought he could be.

“His goal at Tynecastle on Sunday was straight out of the top drawer.

“Now he’s added this string to his bow he has become an all-round top midfielder.

“Put simply, he has a bit of everything in his locker and he is now the most important player in (Giovanni) Van Bronckhorst’s dressing room.

“I’d put a price tag of around £15million on him at this moment, which is £5million more than I would have said just a few weeks ago.”
