Report: Fenerbahce put Newcastle forward Joelinton on transfer radar

Newcastle United forward Joelinton is reportedly attracting interest from European club Fenerbahce.

According to the Shields Gazette, Turkish side Fenerbahce have put the 24-year-old on their transfer wanted list.

It is claimed that their manager Erol Bulut is a “big fan” of the Brazilian striker and a possible loan deal is being explored.

The report adds that it’s unclear on if Magpies boss Steve Bruce would be prepared to sanction his exit from St James’ Park, as he’s currently trying to strengthen options in the final third of the pitch.

Joelinton moved to Newcastle last summer for a club-record fee of £40million (BBC) from Hoffenheim and he turned out to be underwhelming during his first year with the Toon.

The attacker scored four goals and managed four assists in 44 games across all competitions, which is certainly not a good enough reward on a massive investment.

TBR’s View:

It seems highly unlikely that a Turkish club will fork out the funds required to take Joelinton on loan and it’s going to be hard for Newcastle to try sell him for a decent price, so should give him another year to try prove himself in English football.

Manager Steve Bruce has new signing Callum Wilson to compete for the striker role which should help take pressure off Joelinton, plus the latter has the versatility to play from the left too and that is an avenue that should be explored more.
