The Mail claim that Farhad Moshiri is set to risk his relationship with the Everton fans – by handing Rafa Benitez a contract. The ex-Real Madrid and Liverpool gaffer has been linked with Goodison Park but Everton fans are not impressed. However, it appears it will not affect Moshiri’s decision.

A report from ESPN claim that Benitez – who last managed in China with Super League side Dalian Yifang – is a front-runner, alongside Belgium and ex-Toffees gaffer Roberto Martinez. Links with Benitez were met with an angry backlash from Everton fans on social media, and outside the ground.

But a new report from The Mail on Monday night claims that major shareholder Moshiri is to ignore those protests. He is set to press ahead with a move for Benitez and offer him a deal. Benitez is keen on the job, given his family remain in Merseyside. A deal looks likely at this stage.

Hiring Benitez is a big risk for Everton chief Moshiri

Not only is Benitez likely to be on big wages, but he will want plenty of money to spend this summer. So he is expensive. Then, it will come down to results. But with the fanbase already voicing their concerns, the pressure will already be on Benitez. A deal is said to be ‘forthcoming’.

Fail to hit the ground running, and fans will immediately call for his head. So, Benitez needs to get it right, get the work in the transfer window right, and get the tactics right. But the Spaniard has worked at clubs where he is not loved before – Chelsea, Madrid. He knows what is needed.
