Report: 'Fantastic' manager who's spoken to both Tottenham and Arsenal now likelier to join Spurs
Reported Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal target Maurizio Sarri is most likely to join Spurs ahead of the Gunners, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
Earlier this month, Football Italia claimed that the 62-year-old was in conversation with both Tottenham and Arsenal.
Spurs are currently on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Jose Mourinho last month, while Arteta has endured a difficult season at the Emirates Stadium.
Sarri was reportedly expected to move to Roma in wake of Paulo Fonseca’s summer departure, which obviously is no longer the case with Mourinho set to take the reins.
And Tuttomercatoweb claims that Tottenham are now the Italian’s most likely destination.
Sarri’s last management role was at Juventus, leading the Turin club to the Serie A title last year, and he also won the Europa League with Chelsea the year before.
While Sarri may have split opinion during his time at Chelsea, he is highly regarded by a number of his peers.
Mauricio Pochettino, for example, told Radio CRC – as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb – in 2018: “Sarri’s football is fantastic and the best to watch in Europe.
“When I can, I try not to miss out on a single Napoli game!”
It remains to be seen whether he’ll return to London with either club, and whether either fanbase would warm to him, but he’s certainly got plenty of experience, not to mention silverware and ability to take a team to the next level as he did with Napoli.
