Arsenal’s hopes of signing Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer have effectively been written off because of the current global health crisis.
That is according to a report from Sport Bild in Germany. The report is suggesting that Arsenal were keen on the player, who has a €40 million (£34.8m) release clause in his current deal at Leverkusen.
However, there is a catch. That clause is only active in the month of May. With the football season unlikely to be restarted anytime soon, Arsenal are in no position to make such a commitment for a player next month without knowing whether they will be playing European football or not next season.

Tah is, therefore, happy to remain at Leverkusen for the time being. But there is a positive for Arsenal fans to take from this news. The same clause is active again in the summer of 2021, meaning Arsenal can revisit their interest next May.
Arsenal should certainly keep tracking Tah. The 6ft 5in powerhouse has been sensational for Leverkusen this season and was all set to be a part of Germany’s squad for Euro 2020 until it was postponed until next summer.
This summer it is simply not possible for Arsenal to make the deal happen. However, in 12 months time, the opportunity will present itself once again and the Gunners must ensure they are at the front of the queue.
