Report: The real reason why Antonio Conte's contract talks with Tottenham were delayed by a week
It’s nothing to worry about for Tottenham fans though. Talks are set to resume and the club are desperately keen to get Conte tied down to a new deal before the Premier League gets back underway.
The 53-year-old arrived at Tottenham in November 2021. He replaced Nuno Espirito Santo who endured a torrid time of things in North London and guided the team into the Champions League.
Since checking in with Spurs, he’s done pretty well. He’s overseen 33 wins from his 58 games in charge and has a win ratio of 56%. At the break for the World Cup, his team sit fourth in the Premier League.
Despite a decent first year and a bit in charge, some fans aren’t impressed. Some of their performances this season have been drab and before the World Cup, they lost in the League Cup to Nottingham Forest.
It’s fair to say that he’s worth giving time to, however. His CV is desperately impressive and with the right level of backing, there is a real belief that Tottenham can challenge for the title in the future.
Reason for Conte contract talks breaking down revealed
Fear not Tottenham fans, Conte is still wanted by Tottenham! It’s claimed in today’s report that contract negotiations will continue from today between the two parties.
The manager has previously won the Premier League. He led London rivals, Chelsea, to glory in 2016/17 and also won the FA Cup with the Blues during the following campaign.
Last week, talks should have progressed. But, The Athletic claims that they were put on hold with Fabio Paratici busy with pre-occupied commitments last week.
Tottenham fans will want this nipped in the bud pretty quickly. They won’t want talks to drag on and if Conte commits, the club can make plans for the future under the Italian boss.
