Report explains Rafa Benitez grand Everton plan that fans 'can buy into'

Rafa Benitez has a long-term plan for Everton, according to reports. The Spaniard wants something every fan ‘can buy into’.

This comes from the Athletic. They say that Rafa Benitez has a plan to change the look of Everton’s play, even after their impressive start.

Everton currently sit in fourth on 10 points, one ahead of Manchester City. They’re unbeaten after four games scoring 10 and conceding four.

They’re looked very impressive, even with £220k-a-week playmaker James Rodriguez out of the picture. But Benitez is apparently far from done.

The Athletic quote a club source that explains what Benitez hopes to bring to Everton over the coming season.

Everton's 2013-14 5th Place XI: Where Are They Now?

“He wants them to be aggressive and dynamic and to play with energy – something that the fans can buy into and get behind,” says their source.. “That’s the plan.

“Last season, they were often insipid, slow and lacking energy, direction and conviction.

“Their home games were really poor. They had a lot of the ball without end-product. Rafa wants them to be quicker, in everything.”

Benitez has Everton plan

Benitez has something of a reputation as a manager who builds very slow, turgid teams. That’s a very unfair representation, however, and largely stems from his modern-era spell with Newcastle United.

Though, his early Liverpool team was quite similar. Their journey to the 2005 Champions League trophy was built on being resolute rather than emphatic.

But Benitez sides at their best are mechanical phenoms, teams where every player has a specific part to play. When it works well – as it did with Valencia and Liverpool – it can be spectacular, both in results and style.

It should be encouraging for Everton fans, then, that Benitez sees that as possible. It simply wasn’t at Newcastle and arguably Napoli, too, while he didn’t get a proper chance with Inter, Chelsea or Real Madrid.

We’re seeing the early signs and they’re positive. But as Benitez continues to add pieces – and those pieces slowly click together – this machine could become a very exciting one.
