Report: 'Exceptional' Arsenal player highly likely to leave this summer, willing to take a wage cut to go

Hector Bellerin is highly likely to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window when he will have just 12 months left on his deal, according to Goal.

Bellerin is currently on loan at Real Betis and the Spanish club are ready to negotiate to buy the Spanish defender at the end of the season.

The right-back is apparently willing to take a wage cut to go, and that has given Betis encouragement that they can finance a deal.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Bellerin could yet stay at Arsenal for another season but now it seems that the wheels will be soon in motion for his departure on a permanent basis.

7 Transfers That Were TERRIBLE For Everyone Involved

Bellerin likely to leave Arsenal

Their report reads: “While Arteta did not totally rule out the possibility of the full-back returning to the Emirates Stadium next season, that remains highly unlikely. Betis have made it clear to the player that they want to make his move permanent in the summer and the Spanish club believe they will have then finances to make the deal possible.

Bellerin will have to agree to a reduction from the £110,000-a-week wages he has been on at Arsenal since 2016, but that is not expected to be a problem. He took a cut in pay to push through his loan move last summer, and it is likely he will do so again when official negotiations begin at the end of the season.

So far there have been no talks between Arsenal and Betis about a permanent transfer, but they will soon begin – with the Spanish side waiting for the season to finish before opening discussions. And they are confident they will get a deal done at a favourable price thanks to the defender’s contract situation and his strong relationship with Arteta.

After some difficult times Bellerin has found himself again during his time back in Spain, and in a few months it is now highly likely that his 12-year stay with Arsenal will officially come to an end.”

Arteta deemed him an “exceptional player and an incredible person” when Bellerin left on loan last year, but has since replaced him with Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Brooke Norton-Cuffy is a young right back who could remain at Arsenal next season after an impressive spell at Lincoln City in League 1.

Perhaps getting rid of Bellerin would help bring the English teenager through, but with European football ahead next season, Arsenal do not want to leave themselves short of depth.

But if Bellerin is so keen to leave that he wants to take a pay cut, it seems he will not extend his contract, and it does make sense that Arsenal would cash in.
