They will begin their pre-season fixtures with a friendly against Colombia’s Millonarios on Sunday night.

And Sky Sports claims Gray could potentially be available for that game, with Everton looking to confirm his arrival today.

The Goodison Park outfit has signed Asmir Begovic from Bournemouth and Andros Townsend on a free transfer this week.

Demarai Gray: The story so far

Gray came through the ranks at Birmingham City and made his senior breakthrough in 2013.

He won the Academy Player of the Season award in 2014 and followed it up with the Young Player of the Season accolade in 2015.

Gray made 78 competitive appearances for Birmingham before joining Leicester in January 2016.

The Foxes triggered the winger’s £3.7million release clause, landing him on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

Gray made ten substitute appearances in 2015-16 Leicester won the Premier League title and the hearts of the football world.

He made 169 competitive appearances for the club, registering 13 goals and 17 assists, before moving to Leverkusen in January this year.

Gray has made just 12 competitive appearances for the Bundesliga club, scoring once, and now he looks set for a Premier League return.

Everton closing in on “big talent”?

After shining in a 2019 game against Bournemouth, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers sung Gray’s praises to the Leicester Mercury.

“He was excellent,” he said. “Has been training very well. He is a big talent and he showed that when he came in.”

And the Bundesliga website compared him to Schalke star Rabbi Matondo.

“Fast, direct, tricky and happiest when standing his opposition up as he looks to go beyond them, Gray and Schalke’s Welsh winger Matondo share a fair bit in common. They’re also both two-footed.”
