Report: 'Everything indicates' Spaniard could be at Leeds next season; Orta has made initial approach
Victor Orta has already made an initial approach to Diego Martinez as Leeds United consider future replacements for Marcelo Bielsa as head coach, with Super Deporte claiming that ‘everything indicates’ that Martinez will be the next man in charge at Elland Road.
Bielsa has not had the easiest campaign after a superb first year in the Premier League with the Whites. His side find themselves just above the relegation zone.
There have been mitigating factors. Leeds have endured a nightmare run of luck with injuries. And they have dropped a lot of points from winning positions.
The promise that they have shown will leave the club with a lot of hope that they can pull themselves away from danger.
Nevertheless, Leeds appear to be continuing to keep on top of what the future holds.
Of course, it is well-known that Bielsa’s contracts only run until the end of that particular season. So it is no surprise that Orta appears to be putting plans in place in case the Argentinian’s tenure comes to an end next year.
According to Super Deporte, a first approach for Martinez has been made. It is claimed meanwhile, that the 40-year-old is in England to learn about the Premier League and the respective philosophies at each club.
The report suggests that ‘everything indicates’ that he will take over from Bielsa. He has apparently rejected the chance to take the Elche job.
Diego Martinez an exciting option for Leeds for when day comes to replace Marcelo Bielsa
Martinez is currently a free agent after leaving Granada earlier this year. He had previously led the side to promotion and then the Europa League. And he is arguably one of the most exciting coaches on the market right now.
Most Leeds fans, Orta included, will be hoping that Bielsa has plenty still to give at Elland Road. He has secured his place as one of the best coaches in the club’s history.
But keeping tabs on Martinez certainly looks to be an incredibly smart move.
