Everton are on the verge of announcing a new five-year contract for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, according to a report from The Telegraph.

Calvert-Lewin has been a revelation for the Toffees this season. He has scored eight goals in 18 Premier League appearances, including five in his last five in the top flight.

The Telegraph reports that the two parties have been in discussions for the last six months and an agreement is now close. Calvert-Lewin’s wage is set to rise to between £70,000 and £75,000-a-week.

The news will probably be a relief to many of the Goodison Park faithful. The Sun reported on Wednesday that Manchester United were planning a £50 million bid for the 22-year-old.

Whether Calvert-Lewin would have been interested in joining Manchester United or not, it still looks to be a big statement for Everton to agree a new deal.

His form is bound to attract attention, particularly as he is thriving during one of his first stints as a key player on Merseyside.

But he looks ready to commit to staying at Everton for the foreseeable future. It will be a further boost for the Toffees following the recent appointment of Carlo Ancelotti.

It appears that Everton are now back moving in the right direction. And reports of Calvert-Lewin’s new deal will be a fantastic way for the Toffees to kick off the new decade.
