Rarely used Everton winger Bernard has been earmarked as a potential signing by AS Roma according to reports in Italy.
Corriere dello Sport have claimed the 14-cap Brazilian is one of the top alternative names for the club’s manager Paulo Fonseca, who is looking to bolster his squad’s attacking options.
Stephan El Shaarawy is said to be the club’s main target, with the Serie A side hopeful of a loan for their former player, who currently plies his trade for Shanghai Shenhua.
Bernard has been on the periphery this season and has made just eight appearances in all competitions.
He is way down in the pecking order at the moment, with Richarlison, James Rodriguez, Anthony Gordon and Alex Iwobi all ahead of him.
The Brazilian has looked good in glimpses during his spell at Goodison Park, but he has a fairly disappointing return of seven goals and seven assists in 74 appearances for the club.
He may have had the chance to impress against Manchester City with Richarlison and Rodriguez both unavailable, but the game was postponed due to several Covid-19 cases for City.
TBR’s View – Everton should sell for the right price
Everton don’t need to be selling mid-season unless a great offer is made.
Bernard can still be useful for Everton, but realistically is Roma come in with a good offer, and the Toffees believe they can bring someone else in, then that is something that should be looked into.
Given the form he’s shown as the highest-paid player at the club on £120,000-a-week (Spotrac), there would certainly be some people open to seeing him sold.
