Everton reportedly want Wendel, Carlo Ancelotti has spoken to him about five-year deal

Reports in Brazil are suggesting that Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is set to do battle with his former employers to secure the services of Sporting Lisbon star Wendel.

That is according to Esporte News Mundo in Brazil. They are reporting that Ancelotti has actually spoken with the midfielder over the phone to try and convince him of the project at Goodison Park.

However, it is Ancelotti’s previous club Napoli who are said to be leading the race for the player. Everton and Napoli are both believed to be offering a deal until 2025 for the player, with an automatic extension clause. The Italians are seemingly willing to offer the midfield dynamo a higher salary than would be on offer at Everton.

The Serie A side see the 22-year-old as a potentially perfect eventual replacement for Allan, another player who has recently been linked with Everton. As reported by France Football last month, Everton are keen on the £35 million 29-year-old midfield maestro.

Wendell, however, would be a far more impressive signature from Everton. Is age would make him a more profitable acquisition and one which would surely interest sporting director Marcel Brands.

But whilst Napoli lead the way, Everton face another problem. Sporting are notoriously difficult negotiators and may not wish to sell Wendell this summer.

Their January sale of Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United has also left them in a decent financial position, meaning any sale is currently unlikely.
