Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb have claimed AS Roma midfielder Steven N’Zonzi could be sold by the Serie A club in January, with Lyon and Everton both making contact over a move for the France international.

N’Zonzi, 31, signed for Roma from Sevilla in the summer of 2018 for £26million (CalcioMercato). He clocked up 39 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A side last season, but he was ousted in the summer by the Italian giants.

He has since gone on loan to Turkish side Galatasaray for the 2019-20 campaign, where he is hardly happy despite being first choice and playing 15 times for his loan team. It is believed he will return to Roma in January, early.

Lyon are said to be keen to bring in experienced reinforcements in January ahead of their clash against Juventus in the last 16 of the Champions League. Meanwhile, Everton are in contact with Roma over a move for N’Zonzi.

The report claims N’Zonzi wants to remain in European competition, with Gala having played in the Champions League alongside PSG, Real Madrid and Club Brugge. But the potential presence of Carlo Ancelotti would tempt N’Zonzi.

TBR’s view – N’Zonzi would be an excellent signing for Everton

Since Everton sold Idrissa Gueye to Paris Saint-Germain, they have lacked a holding midfielder – though Jean-Philippe Gbamin did sign only to suffer a long-term injury soon after. Similarly, Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph are out injured.

Bringing in an experienced holding midfielder that has Premier League experience will be high on Ancelotti’s demands before joining Everton – and N’Zonzi would be an excellent example.
