Report: Everton want to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Neto; Arsenal also keen
According to reports in Spain, Everton have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Barcelona goalkeeper, Neto.
Sport make the claim, claiming that the Toffees are interested in signing Neto, who reportedly cost Barcelona just over £22m when he signed in 2019.
The 31-year-old Brazilian is expected to leave the Nou Camp this summer. He was initially tipped to leave in January, however, Neto stayed put and has managed a few games for the Catalan club since then.
But he is now going to move on, and Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is among the admiring parties. The Toffees’ interest comes just days after reports from Mundo Deportivo that Arsenal were still keen on the goalkeeper.
Whether Everton do move for Neto remains to be seen. Jordan Pickford has once again cemented himself as the number one. Although with Robin Olsen’s loan set to end, Neto could well be a bargain option for Ancelotti.
TBR View: Everton want Neto and it’s no surprise really
Given the Toffees need themselves a goalkeeper, Neto is a pretty obvious choice. He might not have been the main man in Barcelona but he’s still a quality operator and behind Pickford, he’d provide experience and assurance.
Neto has won a cap for Brazil and that in itself proves he is no amateur. And at 31, he still has ample time left, such is the life of a goalkeeper.
Everton could do a lot worse here in all honesty. Neto would prove a solid piece of business, should they be able to complete a deal.
