Report: Everton want £22m man who Ancelotti admired previously
Everton could still make a move for Barcelona goalkeeper Neto this summer, despite Carlo Ancelotti leaving the club for Real Madrid.
Neto cost Barcelona a whopping £22m back in 2019. But since then, he hasn’t cemented himself as the number one at the Camp Nou.
He has made just 17 appearances for the Spanish giants since his move to the club. His contract is set to expire in 2023, but Barcelona could be prepared to cash in now.
Everton are looking for a new goalkeeper after allowing Robin Olsen to move back to Italy. It leaves just Jordan Pickford as the main recognised stopper at the club.
The Toffees are still without a manager. However, reports suggest Nuno Espirito Santo is set to be appointed. The former Wolves boss, it seems, quickly getting back into the Premier League groove.
Neto to Everton makes sense for the club…not not for him
What is the point really for Neto here? He’s going to end up moving to another club and just being a number two again.
Surely he wants to play regularly and be the main man? Of course, he might be happy just playing second fiddle. If that’s the case, then a move to Goodison might suit him.
Neto is clearly a good goalkeeper. He was great with Valencia and Barcelona shelled a lot of money out for him. Everton, too, do need a good number two to put pressure on and work with Pickford.
However, Everton won’t be paying anywhere near £22m. So unless Barca are willing to accept a hugely reduced fee, it might be hard to get over the line.
