Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly willing to pay the £30 million asking price for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.
According to a report from The Mirror, the Toffees are in the race to sign the Brazilian along with Arsenal and Leicester City.
Ancelotti is supposedly going to prioritise the signing of a centre-half this summer – at the moment he only has three senior players to choose from in Yerry Mina, Michael Keane and Mason Holgate.
Apparently Everton have had scouts watching Gabriel several times in recent months, with the 22-year-old having impressed.
The 6ft 3in South American joined the club in 2017, and after a couple of loan spells, this season has been his breakout.
In total he’s made 32 appearances in all competitions, and had been keeping club captain Adama Soumaoro out of the side before the Frenchman’s January loan to Genoa.
TBR’s view – Gabriel would be a quality Everton addition
Everton should be doing their level best to try and pip Arsenal and Leicester to Gabriel, who has excellent promise.
He could fit the Premier League really well given his height, turn of pace and passing ability.
What’s more, Gabriel is left-footed which would be good for the Toffees in terms of team balance – sometimes Ancelotti likes to play with three central defenders, and Gabriel could work well as a left-sided centre-half.
With 1.5 tackles (per 90), 1.0 interceptions, 3.4 clearances, and 3.5 aerial duels (WhoScored), Gabriel is a dominant present at the back who could really tighten things up at the back for leaky Everton.
