Everton are monitoring Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi, according to the Sunday Mirror (5/7; page 74), and the Toffees may have reason to be optimistic about their chances of signing the centre-back.

The Sunday Mirror reports that Carlo Ancelotti is looking to bolster his ranks at the heart of the defence.

The Sun recently reported that the Toffees are interested in bringing John Stones back to Goodison Park. But it appears that he is not the only option on their radar.

According to the Sunday Mirror (5/7; page 74), Everton are looking at Senesi, who had made 15 starts in the Eredivisie this term having only arrived from San Lorenzo last September.

The Mirror notes that Feyenoord want around £18 million for the Argentinian, who is currently stalling on signing a new contract.

The report adds that Senesi is eyeing a move to a bigger league. And despite interest from Getafe, Atalanta and Sevilla, Everton are reportedly the favourites as things stand.

TBR View: Senesi an exciting prospect

It does appear to be extremely important that Ancelotti signs a new centre-back this summer.

But the recent form of Michael Keane and Mason Holgate could potentially take some of the pressure off the new signing. It may be slightly less imperative that the new addition hits the ground running next season.

Senesi, at £18 million, appears to have the potential to prove a very shrewd signing. At San Lorenzo, he demonstrated his versatility as he also looked comfortable at left-back.

He has shown that he can be ambitious with the ball at his feet, and is very capable at producing long passes. His positioning has also proved to be a strength.

He looks to have a lot of potential. And you could certainly understand if he felt that Ancelotti was the perfect coach to help him realise all of that potential.
