Report: Everton want Dwight McNeil from Burnley; £25m could be starting price
Everton are reportedly keen on signing Burnley winger, Dwight McNeil this summer, according to a report from the Liverpool Echo.
McNeil has been a shining light for Burnley in the last two seasons, with a number of impressive performances demonstrating his ability.
Despite scoring just the two times last term – one being at Goodison Park – McNeil is a wanted man it seems. The Echo claim the Toffees admire McNeil, and bidding could start at around the £25m mark.
The 21-year-old can play both as a wing-back or an advanced winger if needed. And with Rafa Benitez keen to add to the wide areas, McNeil does make sense.
However, Burnley could well demand more than that £25m. Other clubs are said to be sniffing too, meaning a potential bidding war is on the cards.
McNeil has been one of the standout performers at Turf Moor for some time now. At just 21, he’s already amassed over 100 appearances for Sean Dyche’s men.
The quality is there for all to see, too. Indeed, Jamie Redknapp praised McNeil previously, tipping the winger for a move to a top six side.
“Dwight McNeil, as I say, I really like him. Every time I watch him he gets better and better, he’s got real quality and certainly a player that the top six to eight clubs will be looking at,” Redknapp said, via Lancs Live.
“And that’s no disrespect to Burnley because I don’t like saying that sometimes, but he is that good. He’s got great energy from midfield.”
A move towards a club challenging for Europe, then, would seem the logical next step for McNeil.
Everton will back new man Benitez, and the Burnley man would no doubt go down well among the Toffees supporters.
