Newcastle United were offered the chance to sign Mason Holgate from Everton, the Telegraph report.
Chance rejected
Newcastle were looking at landing loan signings as the window progressed, with their finances limited, and the Telegraph say that the Magpies had plenty of chances to sign players.
Newcastle were offered Harry Winks and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with Everton also giving them the chance to sign Holgate.
In the end, Newcastle turned down the approach and ultimately didn’t sign any players on deadline day.
Holgate, instead, has remained at Everton – where he will fight for a place in Rafael Benitez’s squad.
On the face of it, Holgate actually could have been an interesting addition to Newcastle’s team.

An appealing addition?
The 24-year-old may have fallen out of favour at Everton, but he possesses a number of enviable qualities.
Holgate is able to play at right-back or in central defender, he is reasonably quick, and is capable of playing out from the back.
Newcastle are already reasonably well stocked in defence, but Holgate is arguably an upgrade on most their current options.
At Everton, meanwhile, his chances seem limited right now.
Benitez has favoured other members of his first-team squad, with the Toffees making a strong start to the season.
