Everton plan to follow up the move to tie Richarlison down to a new contract by offering Lucas Digne fresh terms at Goodison Park, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Digne has been an outstanding signing for the Toffees. The 26-year-old featured in 35 of Everton’s 38 Premier League games last season, scoring four and contributing four assists.
And he has started every top flight game for Marco Silva’s men this term. They may be languishing around the relegation zone, but Digne has still impressed.
He has provided three assists already, which is the most at the club. And it appears that he is set to be rewarded for his form since moving to Merseyside.
The Daily Mail reports that the Frenchman signed a five-year deal when he joined in 2018. However, the Toffees are planning to offer the full-back another new contract.
The report notes that Digne – who was previously a target for Tottenham Hotspur – is now valued at £70 million by Everton.
TBR View – Further boost for struggling Everton
It seemed like a real statement to tie Richarlison down to a new contract. The Mail reports that he also signed a five-year deal in 2018. So it clearly was not an issue that the club needed to urgently address.
Similarly, Digne’s contract situation is unlikely to be a major concern right now. So it would be another big boost for the Toffees if they could reach an agreement.
Silva’s men are struggling on the pitch right now. But having players such as Richarlison and Digne pen fresh terms arguably highlights how some of the club’s best players only see the side moving up the table in the near future.
