Everton’s somewhat baffling use of Josh King has arguably become all the more confusing with The Athletic reporting that he managed to impress several of his teammates on the training ground.

As noted by The Athletic, King arrived on a short-term deal during the January transfer window.

It looked to be a shrewd piece of business for the Toffees. The large bulk of their goals up until that point had come from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

However, it proved to be a frustrating stay for the Norwegian.

The 29-year-old ended the campaign with 11 Premier League appearances under his belt. However, he failed to make a single start for the Toffees.

In fact, his longest spell on the pitch came against Fulham when he played for the final 34 minutes.

And it seems that King’s Everton teammates may have been as surprised as anyone to see the forward not feature more.

The Athletic reports that some close to the squad were confused by Carlo Ancelotti not using King more often.

The report claims that he had impressed some of the other players in training.

Unfortunately, Everton endured a pretty disappointing end to the season. They won just three of their final 13 games in all competitions.

And interestingly, they did not score more than once in any of their last seven fixtures.

King was on the pitch for a combined 14 minutes of those seven games.
