Report: Everton target Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Everton are amongst the Premier League sides who could target a move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting that Aston Villa and Southampton also want the 25-year-old.
Loftus-Cheek is returning to Stamford Bridge after an underwhelming spell at Fulham.
He only made 21 starts in the top flight as Scott Parker’s men failed to beat the drop in the Premier League.
The Daily Mail reports that he is unlikely to leave Chelsea on another loan. But should he become available, a number of top flight rivals would be interested in a move.
According to the Mail, Everton, Villa and Southampton would all be keen on Loftus-Cheek.
It is noted that his wages may prove a problem for his admirers. The Telegraph previously reported that he was on £150,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
Everton target Loftus-Cheek could be an exciting addition, but move would be gamble
When Villa were recently linked with Loftus-Cheek, the reports divided some of their fans.
It is not difficult to see why. Loftus-Cheek is a player who always looked to have amazing potential.
However, he was poor at Fulham. He scored once and failed to provide a single assist.
And given that he will not come cheap, it is surely fair to say that a move would be a gamble from the likes of Everton or Villa.
Of course, much may depend on who Everton bring in as their new manager.
The incoming boss is likely to have their own targets in mind. And given that it could be such a gamble to target Loftus-Cheek, it may well be that a certain appointment could signal the end of their interest.
If he can get his career back on track, he could be an outstanding signing. But it is a big if, at this stage.
