Everton youngster Lewis Gibson is expected to be involved in some way for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, but will then be on his way out of the club.

That is according to reports from the Liverpool ECHO, who suggest Gibson will, at the very least, be on the bench for the Tottenham game, as Everton have a number of injury concerns.

Jarrad Branthwaite is battling to feature due to a knock whilst Mason Holgate is out for a number of weeks with a toe injury. Yerry Mina is expected to feature but has only just regained fitness after an injury, leaving Michael Keane as the only fully fit central defender at the club.

Gibson, who impressed in a recent clash with Preston North End in pre-season, will therefore be in the squad for the game and, considering Mina’s fitness levels, looks likely to make an appearance.

But, as the ECHO has reported, he is then set to leave the club on loan. A move to Huddersfield Town is expected to happen, following on from his stint at Fleetwood Town last season.

The move seems unlikely to go ahead until Everton have secured a new defensive recruit, with a loan deal for Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori the main aim.

So it could be Gibson will be featuring for Everton tomorrow, before being sent out to the Championship to continue his progression this season.
