Everton have submitted a bid for Cork City goalkeeper David Harrington, according to Echo Live.

The Toffees have been heavily linked with the 22-year-old in recent days.

Last week, the Irish Examiner claimed Everton had sent scouts to watch Harrington in action.

And on Sunday, the Irish Independent reported that the Toffees were preparing a formal bid for the player.

Now, Everton have apparently lodged a bid of €50,000 (£42,600) plus add-ons for Harrington.

Echo Live claimed Cork are likely to reject the Goodison Park outfit’s offer.

However, the Irish outlet believes Everton will likely submit a second offer for Harrington.

The Toffees would reportedly let the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international stay at City until the end of the season.

Harrington would then join Everton on 1 January if they were to seal a deal, added Echo Live.

The player is out of contract at City at the end of the season.

However, the club would be due compensation if Everton signed him once his deal expired, due to the player’s age.

Harrington has been one of City’s best players this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in his 26 league appearances.

‘Performances beyond his experience’

In May, Echo Live lauded Harrington after he made the ROI U21 team earlier this summer.

‘Harrington’s inclusion in the squad will come as no surprise after his impressive displays for City this season,’ they wrote.

‘The goalkeeper has been exceptional. Considering it is only his first season as a regular in the starting 11, he has shown performances beyond his experience.

‘He has displayed great bravery by coming for crosses. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet.

‘And on the few occasions he has been called upon to make a save, he has demonstrated excellent shot-stopping capabilities.

‘At 21, Harrington has a bright future in the game and will continue to improve.’
