Report: Everton still keen on Atletico Madrid player Santiago Arias

Premier League outfit Everton remain keen on Atletico Madrid performer Santiago Arias, according to Explica.

The report claims that Los Rojiblancos have already opened talks with potential suitors of the Colombian, with Roma also keen.

Arias is on loan with Bayer Leverkusen this season but is currently out with a broken leg.

He has managed just one appearance for the Bundesliga outfit during 2020/21 but should be fit for pre-season.

Everton will be keen to bolster their ranks during the summer months and Arias remains on the shortlist.

The report doesn’t suggest that Atletico have started talks with Everton but Carlo Ancelotti is keen to swoop.

Seamus Coleman is currently Everton’s first-choice right-back, with Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey capable of playing there.

Arias would perhaps be a strange signing given that at 29 he wouldn’t have a great deal of sell-on value.

He does have quality though and has also spent time playing for PSV and Sporting Lisbon during his career.

Arias has 53 caps for the Colombian national team and he’d provide competition to the Everton ranks if nothing else.

TBR View: Ancelotti pull could be telling for Everton

The Toffees have a man in the dugout these days who will inevitably attract quality players to the football club.

In the summer James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure were eye-catching additions. Godfrey arrived as one perhaps for the future.

Arias is an experienced performer and if Ancelotti thinks he’ll make a full return from his serious injury, he could be a decent addition.

The defender only earns £31,000-a-week and that could make him a relatively low-risk option for Everton to consider.
