Report: Everton shortlist Pirlo for manager role
Ex-Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo is a candidate for the Everton manager job.
According to Calciomercato, the Italian is one of the names on the shortlist to take over from Carlo Ancelotti.
But, the Blues aren’t the only teams interested in Pirlo with Verona and Sassuolo also keen.
Pirlo was sacked by the Old Lady last week after a poor season in Turin. The club narrowly qualified for the Champions League. They finished fourth on the final day of the Serie A season after Napoli drew at home to Verona.
However, the 40-year-old did lead the side to victory in the Coppa Italia and Italian Super Cup,
Meanwhile, Ancelotti left Goodison Park to return to Real Madrid earlier in the week. During his unveiling, the 61-year-old claimed there is a difference in ambition between the two sides.
Risk of a manager: Pirlo appointment huge risk for Everton, Nuno proves a better choice
Everything about Everton over the last few seasons has been unstable.
The new incoming manager would be the fourth coach in less than two years. It’s a sign of the lack of stability at the Goodison Park outfit.
The next steps needs to be of longevity and forward-thinking.
Appointing a manager who has only ever managed one season of top-level football proves the opposite.
The former Italy international possesses no qualities which make him stand out as a candidate. Despite possessing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pirlo still managed to struggle in Serie A.
The next step needs to see the northwest outfit hire an experienced coach who can help steady what seems to be a sinking ship.
Nuno Espirito Santo would be an astute appointment after his impact at Wolves.
The Portuguese coach has taken the Midlanders from the Championship to the Europa League in a matter of years. With the funding at Everton, he could work similar wonders.
