Report: Everton set to meet manager Conte lauded today
Everton will hold a second interview with Frank Lampard today as the Toffees continue their search for their next manager, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Everton are still looking for Rafa Benitez’s replacement. And it appeared for a little while that Vitor Pereira was in the driving seat for the position at Goodison Park.
As noted by The Telegraph, the interest in Pereira did not go down well with a section of the Everton fanbase.
It is not clear whether Farhad Moshiri has given up on targeting the Portuguese. But the possibility of appointing Lampard remains firmly on the table.
The Telegraph reports that the former Chelsea boss will be interviewed for a second time on Thursday. It is claimed that he is under serious consideration for the gig.
Lampard could be exactly what Everton need as Toffees seek an identity
Lampard is an interesting target for Everton. He has been out of work for just over a year after leaving Chelsea. The Englishman has shown a lot of potential during his time in the dug-out.
He guided Derby County to the play-off final during his first year as a manager. And he did brilliantly to take Chelsea to the Champions League group-stages as they worked under a transfer ban.
Several younger players got the chance to impress during that year at Stamford Bridge. And Chelsea went on to reach the summit of the Premier League in the early stages of his second season.
However, things unravelled rapidly from there. The club were ninth when it was decided to bring Thomas Tuchel in. And the German went on to lead Chelsea to the top four and the Champions League.
Antonio Conte previously suggested that Lampard had the ability to become one of the world’s best managers.
And Everton would be appointing a young boss with real belief in his ideas. They could certainly do a lot worse, even if he has doubters still to silence.
